Olafur Eliasson’s original artwork to festival ‘London 2012’ was rejected by the Olympic Committee, but now he has created a new project which will be undertaken: audience may buy a sunflower torch of approx. £ 150 and with the torch explore TATE’s – for the occasion – darkened galleries with surreal art. The project is called “Little Sun” and seeks to raise awareness of – and help – the 1.6 billion people worldwide who live without electricity. The lights are powered by solar cells and the plan is that they must reach out to millions in developing countries. The project also refers to the International Surrealist exhibition at the Galerie des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1938, when Man Ray let visitors explore the exhibition with torches.
